Other Local Field Trips:

Norman Lantz will continue to lead bird walks at Silver River State Park on the 3rd Saturday of every month. February's walk will begin at 9:00 A.M. In March the walks will revert to our usual start time of 8:00 A.M. There is no need to contact anyone, just show up at the park on time.

Birding Courses Offered:

"Birding By Ear - Birding 401", Norman Lantz, Instructor: begins on January 29th and runs for seven weeks on Tuesdays from 10:00 A.M to 12 Noon at the Circle Square Cultural Center, 8415 SW 80th Street, Ocala. (352)427-1000.

Cost is $40.00 for residents of On Top Of The World, and $50.00 for non-resident. (There were four (4) spots open as of Friday due to late cancellations.) If anyone is interested, they need to contact Master The Possibilities (MTP) at On Top Of The World (OTOW). Call 854-3699 or go online to http://www.masterthepossibilities.com and view all classes being offered in the current session.

I would like to suggest that those interested in the wide array of courses being offered through MTP also request that their names be added to the mailing list to receive new catalogs as they are issued each quarter. It is best to sign up for classes as soon as they are announced as many of them tend to fill up very quickly.

In the next Session, which begins April 1st, I intend to offer two (perhaps three if time permits) birding classes. Based on the response to surveys, I am leaning toward

If there is sufficient interest, in the future I would like to do "Warblers - 302", "Sparrows - 303", "Daffy, Donald and Other Ducks - 304" and other specialized classes. Most are two-week classes of 1 1/2 hours per week.

Also based on the surveys, I will probably offer "Birding By Ear" again next January. Usually offerd just one class in the fall as we are gone during most of that period. I will need to repeat Backyard Birdwatcher (basics on attracting including feed, feeders, etc.) What Bird Is That? (basic identification skills) and other previously offered courses. Would be happy to add "new" stuff if there is interest - just name the topic and if we can get at least seven (7) people interested, we have a class!
