Society 2007 Christmas Bird Count Summary
Listed below is final copy
(summary) of data for 2007 SWMC CBC. "Count Week" birds added two species -
numbers do not change as "CW" birds are not added to the total to avoid
duplication.
Some observations between 2006 and 2007:
Number of
species was close - down from 111 to 105
Total individuals was way down -
12,047 to 9,621
Almost all the drop could be attributed to just one species -
American Robin - which was down from 3196 to 535 a difference of -2661 !!!
In all, 54 species were lower while 50 were up in count.
Big increases - Black
Vulture +144, Turkey Vulture +258, Killdeer +121, Mourning Dove +105, American
Crow +293, Blue-gray Gnatcatcher +105, Yellow Rumped Warbler +425, American
Goldfinch +300
Major decreases - Common Moorhen, American Coot, Blue Jay
(from 234 to 45), Tree Swallow (141 to 1), Cedar Waxwing (280 to 1) Cardinal,
Chipping Sparrow, Red-winged Blackbird and Boat-tailed Grackle.
